The four walls I’ve kept myself in during my LA semester on the east coast have been a great reminder to myself that the world is in quite troubling times right now. Due to the ongoing pandemic, I was able to come to terms with not going out to LA before we were even told. Now a couple of weeks into my SULA semester, I can say it is one of the best semesters I’ve had at Syracuse. The semester has me focusing on the courses/subjects that I care about, a focus on my career in entertainment. With the focus on what’s to come in only a mere few months when I graduate, the pre-graduate anxieties about the real world started kicking in but once classes were in session that anxiety quickly turned into excitement for my future. The Syracuse network makes me feel secure in this field, and the courses alone have me feeling like a kid again. Typically my mind is on the ongoing cycle of production- pre-production, production, and post-production- but now I’m getting a stronger sense of the true behind-the-scenes; the meetings, the planning, and the initial sparks of ideas and now I can’t wait to be able to talk in the jargon for hours. I can’t wait to get sick of it. But truly, whether it’s because of my senior year or the concentration and practice of what it is I want to do, I have a clearer sense of my future and the view is amazing.
