From the moment you land in LA, you are overwhelmed (in the best possible way) with new experiences. There was is incredible immersion into the industry faster than I ever imagined. From standing before the most influential people in the industry thanks to organized SULA events to being on a set with the one of the internet’s top influencers on the very first day of my internship, the SULA program is providing me with unimaginable experiences. However, LA is a diverse and vibrant city. Taking full advantage of being here means seeking out experiences outside SULA and outside of the entertainment field.
One of the best ways to experience the breath of cultural diversity in LA, while gaining new experiences, is through food. LA is home to every cuisine imaginable. From delicious Armenian cuisine to typical Singaporean street food, LA has it all. LA’s unique cultural neighborhoods allow you to immerse yourself in another culture and its people. It’s almost like flying around the world, while only driving a few miles from the AVA apartments.
I highly recommend taking a drive to Koreatown, it’s only two miles from where you will be housed and it feels like another world. You can explore local Korean supermarkets before stepping into one of the many Korean BBQ restaurants. In traditional Korean BBQ you do all cooking. Waiters bring a variety of delicious meats to your table and you cook them to perfection.
There is no doubt the semester is bussy between classes, internships, and networking events. However, it is important to find moments to take a step aside and try something new, all while expanding your view on world cultures.
