The Opportunities Knocking At Your Door
By Emily Ferber
It’s an understatement to say how amazing my semester in Los Angeles has been. I live in the snowy tundra called Buffalo, which is about 2 hours away from Syracuse. When I originally arrived, I made a promise to myself every weekend I would be trying something new and I am proud to say I have lived up to that promise. I created a list of everything I wanted to do while here and it has gotten to about 3 pages in length. Most of the list has been completed but it continues to grow as I find through blog posts and websites the less known gem locations in Los Angeles.
With the help of SULA, we have been to 3 tapings including 2 Broke Girls, Baby Daddy, and Whose Line Is It Anyways. Through an RA event we were able to visit the Hollywood Costume Museum of costumes/props that were worn by actors/actresses from famous movies. Also through SULA we went on a studio back-lot tour of Warner Brothers lot, which we got to see different sets, costumes, and props from popular movies and TV shows.
During Spring Break some friends and me went to a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live. We applied for tickets about 3 weeks before the show and found out the day before that President Obama would be on the show! It was an incredible experience to see the President of the United States. Also during our spring break, SULA had a panel that had experience working in comedy. Anthony Anderson, Yara Shahidi, and Loni Love attended the panel and afterwards we were able to meet them!
I could write pages of pages about all of the things I have done in LA, but I think you have gotten the idea so I am sparing you. haha. It just goes to show there are plenty of opportunities knocking at your door sometimes you have to search a little harder for doors that have are hiding or have not been created yet.
