I cannot believe I’ve already been here in Los Angeles for five weeks!! The time has flown by so quickly because every minute of every day is a new experience. I still cannot get over all of the people I have had the opportunity to meet in these past five weeks, and I am excited for all the people I know I still have yet to meet! Looking back on this past month and a half, two experiences in particular stand out to me as two that I will always remember. During our first week here, orientation week, we were fortunate enough to go on a tour of the Warner Bros studios set up by SULA. This was a great introduction to Hollywood for me because the tour was so impressive that it reminded me of why I chose to come to LA. The tour was focused mostly on the show Gilmore Gils, which is a show that I grew up with and that solidified my passion for television as a profession. I felt like it was almost fate that during one of my first days in LA I got to visit the set of the show that has played a huge role in the direction my life has taken, and that has led me here. The second experience I have had thus far, that I am so grateful for, happened in my senior capstone class when our professor set up a meeting with the Vice President of content acquisition for Netflix. That day, class was held at the Netflix headquarters in Beverly Hills where we spent an hour sitting down with Sean Carey asking him any and all questions we could think of. For me, this experience was truly bringing my education full circle. I am entering the industry at an interesting time as my generation continues to turn away from traditional TV and more towards online streaming services. As a “cord cutter” myself it was interesting to learn about a medium that I use in my daily life, and that one day I hope to work with.
