THE BAY TO LA
By Isabel Sherman
I drove down to LA along the 5 freeway, leaving behind the Golden Gate Bridge and the foggy skies to spend the semester “abroad” in my own state. Six hours later I arrived in the city that I had spent weeks at a time in with my family but never had the chance to explore for myself. Now I’m here, learning what runs perpendicular to Sunset and how to cheat traffic as I head down the 405 to intern in Santa Monica.
So far, this semester has been unforgettable. While most of my friends are abroad in Madrid, London and Prauge, I am here in sunny LA, sleep- deprived from two internships, eating in-n-out (protein style of course), spending January weekends at the beach, hiking runyon canyon in 80 degree weather, and meeting fascinating people who are my inspiration to get out of bed at 6am to head to work. I wouldn’t change a thing. This program has made me so excited to go out into the real world and start working. Everyday I meet and talk to people who have made astounding contributions to the entertainment world and have brought laughs, tears, and truth to the homes of millions. In just a month, I’ve learned more about my career goals and aspirations than two and a half years at Syracuse. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester will bring!
