Being in LA has been such an adventure! It hasn’t been that long but I’ve already learned so much about the entertainment industry through classes, being a production assistant and just meeting people. I definitely feel like I’m getting the hang of this LA lifestyle. One thing I really love about the city is the people, although there is a difference between people in cars (not so friendly, aggressive, hostile) and people in person (super friendly, nice, will tell you their life story…). Almost everyone I’ve met has been hospitable, from helping me with directions to giving me their advice on making it in LA. I also love my internship! I kind of lucked into it but if you can manage, get a paid one! I work three days a week with classes four days a week, I’ve had time to work on my capstone documentary and I usually have a decent amount of free time throughout the week. The three worst things about LA, in my book, is driving, traffic and parking. People are actually crazy… Watch out for pedestrians in the street, learn how to parallel park and READ ALL PARKING SIGNS! Waze will be your new best friend! I still can’t decide if I’m an east coast or a west coast kind of girl, but I’m really happy with my decision to come out here and experience it for myself through the LA Semester program. I would recommend it to anyone who thinks they might want to move out here after graduation. My last piece of advice would be to try to take advantage of as many opportunities here as you can and save up a good chunk of change for this semester if you’re used to working on campus!
