This away semester in Los Angeles has been among one of the most interesting semesters of my Syracuse career to date. Living in Los Angeles was nothing like I imagined it would be and yet at the end of these very short few months I find myself connected to this new home. LA has so much to offer from the healthy food to the predictably beautiful weather. Many people coming out here for their first time worry about the superficiality of the area, however, LA has so much more to offer. Since arriving to my short-term home in the Oakwood I’ve found myself experiencing new art, music, foods, & culture. The realm of possibilities here, though cliché, is seemingly endless and this has made my stay here so much more positive then I ever could have hoped. Coming from NYC where the industry and creative scene are vastly different, LA provided a fresh and exciting perspective. It’s true when they say that LA is a hub for music and entertainment. The amounts of opportunities available out here greatly outweigh the opportunities available in other markets like NY or Nashville. Though I used this semester to focus on developing myself as a young professional, I did take advantage of some truly amazing daily activities that LA offers like weekly hikes and beach trips. These trips have made my experience on the West Coast all the more special. I’m really happy that I made this semester an away semester in Los Angeles. It was an extremely positive experience and I feel more well rounded as a person because of it.
