Los Angeles is the city where all your dreams can come true. That’s what they told me before I got here. I am originally from The Bay Area, so I have, of course, made the six-hour drive to go to Disney Land and to visit family. However, I never thought would live here. Since I learned about the SULA program, I dreamt about how my semester would go, and how I would find a job right away. But, to my surprise, my dreams were not exactly my reality. Now before I continue, I think it would be best to point out that I do not dislike living in LA. It is just different than my usual NYC stomping grounds. Being in LA has changed my life, not for the worse of for the better, but has helped me grow up. It has put my life in perspective. There comes a time when you are about to graduate and your life is right in front of you and you realize that you have to make certain REALISTIC decisions. But, when I was growing up and thinking about what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be, I didn’t think about what was realistic. I didn’t know what was feasible. LA and I have had many ups and downs, but my time here has helped me mature. Sometimes your job isn’t all about money. You have to weigh your happiness. Sometimes the job you want wont pay what you want, and the job you don’t want will, but what is more important to you? I figured out that was happiness for me. So now I feel like I’ll be taking the road less traveled by recent grads. Let’s look on the bright side, at least I will be happy.
