The most exciting day of my internship at Good Universe so far was when a group of us development interns got to consult on the script of a current project. The writers wanted to make sure the dialogue was realistic for characters our age, so a group of us were brought in to meet about the story and character arcs. It was an incredibly exciting opportunity, and we really learned a lot about how much time and effort are put into screenplay drafts. We got to talk about possible casting, changes we would like to see in the characterization of the protagonists, and any other thoughts we had on the storyline. Because I am interested in screenwriting, comedy, and development, I really appreciated the opportunity to dive right into the industry. I think we provided strong notes, especially for our first time participating in a real professional meeting. The hands-on experiences that I am getting to take part in working at Good Universe are extremely helpful in deciding what I want to do before I graduate. Each week we take part in intern lunches where a different department at the company tells us what their job entails, what they like, don’t like, what the future is for the position, and answer any questions we have. This week was based around international sales- a part of the industry I didn’t know a lot about. We got to watch sizzle reels and trailers for upcoming international projects, and discuss film festivals and how they play a large role in getting connected with buyers. I look forward to learning more about all various executives and their positions.
