My SULA semester so far

My SULA semester so far

By Lian Mengzhuo

This semester means a lot to me. Before this semester, I was trying to do independent films but I didn’t know exactly what my plans were. I heard and learned about Hollywood and LA and the film industry, but it is only when I came here, lived here and worked here did I truly realize what this meant.

SULA provided us so many great opportunities to meet and listen to people who are working in the industry, in higher and lower positions. All our teachers are from the Hollywood. Meeting and spending time with all these people portrayed me a rough picture of the industry and life here. I also have an internship at a film production company. In addition, I went to local film sets during my free time. Together all the experiences gave me a better understanding of the things here.

During this semester I realized that I don’t like office work or on set work. And I don’t want to do films to ‘entertain’ people. I mean this is as important as other students’ decisions of embracing the industry after college. There are still things that I need to figure out but I got a clearer direction of where I’d like to go. So I really appreciate the life experience and inspiration SULA is providing. This semester will always be remembered and cherished.
