My 3 Weeks In LA
By David Soberman
During my time in LA, I can honestly say that I have had experiences that will last a lifetime. Even though living in LA has had its challenges, I can say that my overall experience has ben a positive one. At my internship with Good Universe Productions, I have been privileged with having the opportunity to read scripts, provide coverage, and attend pitch meetings where the interns get to discuss the scripts they have read with the executive staff. Even though I have only been working for three weeks, I already feel like I have learned so much. As far as my experiences living in LA, I have been able to attend the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, see comedian Bill Burr at the Comedy Store, and saw the tapings of 2 television shows (Dr. Ken, and Conan). Being a seat filler at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards was something that I will never forget, and hopefully someday soon I will be able to attend the show as an invited guest rather than as a seat filler. I have also had the privilege of going on a tour of the Warner Bros. lot where I was able to see the sets of some of my favorite movies and TV shows. My classes overall have been very interesting as I have been learning about the nuances of producing an independent film in my business development class (skills that will be very useful upon graduation). In my cinematography class, I have also been learning about the proper technique to filming certain kinds of scenes for a film. Even though it has only been three weeks, I honestly feel like I have done a lot and have had the time of my life while doing it.
