What do you think of when you hear LA? Movie stars, nice weather, traffic?
When I was a junior in high school visiting Newhouse, I remember Professor Schoonmaker telling me about the semester in LA program, and ever since then I had dreamed of going to LA. I knew that this was the place to be to make movies and television shows. Four years later that dream became a reality.
When I first arrived in LA, I was terrified and excited at the same time. How would my internship go? Would I get stuck in tons of traffic on my first day? Could I consider moving here? All of these questions were swarming through my head as I drove down the 101 letting my hair down and letting the warm wind ease my nerves. On the first day of my internship my heart was pounding out of my chest. I arrived very early and thankfully didn’t run into too much traffic. When I first drove onto the Universal lot, it was surreal. This is where the magic happens. This is the real deal. My first day of work went smoothly and I got to meet a few celebrities. All of the anxiety that I had initially felt subsided. I have been working at my internship for about two months now and I have learned so much about the industry. I have learned how to write coverage and pitch movie ideas to executives. The classes I am taking are excellent as well. When I look at all of the snow piling up back east, I am so grateful to be in beautiful, sunny California!
