Los Angeles – Hollywoodland. It is definitely a trip. A town high on its glamour and vanity, Los Angeles pulls in the dreamers and star-cravers – the kids that just didn’t get enough love in youth. As a self-defined “filmmaker” (like so many others), this city is a newly welcomed home. With entertainment advertising towering over every street corner, each film’s release is an event – a phenomenon larger than life.
This semester I took two internships and then 18 credits of classes to boot. Yes, it was grueling. However, for someone who wishes to enter the industry after graduation, you cannot let this great opportunity pass. This is the resume-building, network-establishing, all-on-the-line time; We’re here to get a job. Period.
Unfortunately, I didn’t succeed this semester. But it is possible – I believe we had one person win this time around. It truly is the luck of whatever company you’re working at. I worked at two companies with no future job outlook. Sure, I learned plenty about the industry, but I’m a senior with loans over my head. I want something real. But hey, like I said – it is possible through SULA – and isn’t that enough to make you want to join?
