Living and working in Los Angeles
By Maria Nacer
Living in Los Angeles has been a great professional and personal experience. Being from Puerto Rico I am used to hot weather, going to the beach and being able to drive everywhere. I love that I can do the same in LA. Santa Monica and Venice Beach are very nice, but I personally prefer to go to Malibu, even if it means a longer drive. The views through the mountains are incredible and Zuma Beach is really nice. Aside from the beaches there are so many options for sight seeing, tasty food, great music venues and amazing acts every weekend, there is always something to do.
As a professional experience the SULA semester has been great, I have met so many people who work in the entertainment industry in Film, Television, and Music and it has been inspiring to hear their backstory and how they made it into the industry. Working as an intern at AEG Live Concerts West Touring department has just made my Los Angeles experience an even better one. I’ve had the opportunity of working concerts at Staples Center and the Microsoft Theater for big performers such as Carrie Underwood, Marc Anthony, and Marco Antonio Solis. This opportunity has allowed me to work with great people in the live music scene, which is where I want to work in after graduating.
There are some downsides to everything, in the case of living in Los Angeles the downside is the traffic and that everything feels far away. However, for me this doesn’t matter that much when you consider all the good things that the city has to offer. I have always had my mind set on going back to Puerto Rico after graduation, but if I decide to stay in the United States for a few years California would definitely be my first choice.
