LA: Every Day’s Like an Open Door
By Minji Kim
I grew up with watching Friends, CSI, and Grey’s Anatomy in South Korea. I’ve always dreamed about working in Hollywood since I was a little girl. I just merely dreamed one day I would produce that kind of creative TV series. After I got accepted to SULA program, I still couldn’t believe that I would work in Hollywood. To be honest, I was so glad but also a little bit afraid of living and working in LA because I’ve never been to Western side of the States. Also, it was so hard to decide to come to here in my last senior semester. However, I believed that LA semester would be a great start off to my career in TV production. As of this day, I’m currently living in the nice apartment in North Hollywood and working in Silver Screen Production as a PA. Boom! I could not say it was super easy but my dream of working in Hollywood came true.
More importantly, I could have a lot of chances to meet professionals and get sincere advice about working in the entertainment industry through SULA program. Who could imagine that I met Craig Borten who wrote Dallas Buyers Club in Warner Bros. Studio? For example, Patrick Gallagher, who was one of the Glee casts, came to the class and gave a lot of advice about how to work with actors. Seriously, I’m so grateful that I decided to choose LA semester as my last semester. I truly believe it must be one of my best life decisions. In LA, every day’s like an open door to me and I can see myself producing my own TV series in the near future.
