This weekend, I drove 6 hours to eat the best NY style pizza in the Pacific time zone. Well, actually, I drove 6 hours to gamble and see Snoop Dogg DJ at a nightclub in Vegas…I kind of just stumbled on the pizza. I promise I’m going somewhere with this.
Most of the students in this program come out here with one question in mind: New York or LA? It’s a pretty simple question. Most of us are from the East coast so there’s always some degree of uncertainty when we decide to live amongst palm trees instead of skyscrapers. The problem is that most of us end up comparing the two. NY smells and is overpriced, but it has character and the best food in the world. LA is filled with traffic and fake people, but it has “the industry” and quinoa. But the face is that the two are incomparable.
As I stood with one foot on the east coast and another on the west, I realized that I needed to take the plunge and decide where to live. The sooner I decided to stay out in LA, the sooner I would start to move forward and see LA for the amazing, bizarre place that it is. Sure, there will be things about NY that I will miss, but there are so many great things out here that I have discovered and have yet to discover. And it’s always comforting to know that the pizza I crave for is just a 6 hour drive away.
