Home Away from Home
By Melissa Gattuso
Since freshman year, I knew that I would graduate a semester early and for my last semester, I would participate in the SULA program. These past three months have been a wonderful way to end my college career. I’m currently finishing up my internship at Gulfstream Pictures on the Warner Brothers Lot. At my internship, I read scripts and books and write coverage on them, go on runs and sit in on Weekend Read meetings held every Monday. I’ve gained invaluable knowledge and experience at this internship. I have even been given the opportunity to cover for one of the assistants when she goes on a weeklong vacation after the semester ends.
However, I haven’t spent the semester just at my internship or in class. Some highlights have been exploring the various beaches of LA County, going to the Lakers season opener, and brushing shoulders with Justin Timberlake at the AMAs. Back in August, I had a very different expectation of what Los Angeles would be like. I wasn’t entirely ready for the sprawling nature of LA, but yet I was surprised how I immediately felt at home. With the holidays approaching, I’m heading back to the East Coast. But I can’t wait to make the move out here and make Los Angeles my permanent home.
