If you’ve ever seen L.A. Story, you’ll know the scene where Steve Martin doltishly drives form one block to the other to get to the next house. SULA can be a great one-stop to actively learn about your industry and dip your toes into [its] business, but don’t forget it’s a place for you to learn more about yourself and cultivate your career. Beyond the Hollywood Hills, I’ve travelled from Northridge to Santa Monica and attended events with alumni, the Audio Engineering Society (AES) Convention and several shows at the Avalon, Bardot and Hollywood Palladium where I’ve made some great music industry connections. As a producer and DJ, I’ve been able to do shows in Manhattan Beach, which I like to think of as a mix of Santa Cruz and my hometown of San Francisco. I’ve also visited friends at USC, had night trips to Santa Clarita, attended a dance music festival in San Bernadino and am even thinking of heading out to Santa Barbara, San Diego & Pomona before Thanksgiving. Whether you’re from Syracuse or a California native, don’t turn your back on the City of Angels. You will always find more than what you’re looking for and chances to progress your profession because in LA: its about the long ride.
