East Coast Vs. West Coast

East Coast Vs. West Coast

By Lauren Shaw

Having grown up in New York all my life, I was very eager and excited at the opportunity to experience the west coast for a semester. I quickly realized after only being here for a days that I would be returning to New York with no answer to everyone’s most popular burning question, “Which city is the better city?!” I have already been able to see that New York City is incomparable to Los Angeles. The two cities are so different in so many aspects, and have such unique qualities that make them so special. Of course there are the obvious differences- like having to drive instead of hop on the subway, as well as rarely needing a jacket or umbrella. However, as someone trying to work in the entertainment industry, being able to live in the “entertainment hub” of the world has already provided me with an abundance of opportunities that other cities are just not as capable of offering. Even beyond the array of movie studios and production companies that are at your fingertips here, there are movie screenings, comedy shows, and what seems like an endless amount of opportunities to immerse yourself in the culture and meet new people that all have the same interests and passions as you. I will always be a New York girl at heart, but I am quickly learning through this semester that LA could become my new home after graduation.
