When I first got to Los Angeles in August a few things surprised me. The first was how tall the palm trees were. I imagined something smaller; instead they almost tower over everything. In a way they force you to recognize where you are. Secondly, I didn’t realize how hot it would be even through October. While my family is sending me photos of leaves changing, I’m walking down to get lunch and sweating in the Sun. Despite the heat though, Los Angeles is an amazing city. I’ve been lucky enough to work in the Westwood neighborhood, next to UCLA where I’ve been able to meet a lot of new people both in my professional and social life. In fact, as I type this, looking out onto the Pacific Ocean from my desk all I can think about is how hard it will be do leave this place. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to call LA my home in the future. But for now, I’m simply enjoying the view while I can.
