Anita is a versatile award-winning independent filmmaker who’s had the opportunity to write, produce, and direct for Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy winners. She is the Executive Producer/Creator of the 2018 “Beyond The Badge” Pilot starring Daya Vaidya (Bosch, General Hospital), Alice Amter (Big Bang Theory), and Kent Faulcon (For Better or Worse) and the Co-Creator/Co-Writer of “The Bully Detective” (Disney Micropilot, 2016). Anita landed her first development deal with Showtime, Inc. while still in graduate school. She is the co-creator of the t.v. pilot Chico’s Kidz, writer for The Chin Chens (Bright Ideas/Colours TV). For two seasons, Anita wrote for Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Meet The Browns (TBS). As a writer/producer, her pictures have aired on Showtime Inc., HBO Europe, Bounce TV, Colours TV, the Sci-Fi Channel, BET, Starz, TBS, TV1, and KCAL 9.
A former Los Angeles Times reporter, Anita is a graduate of the University of Washington with a B.A. in Journalism. She graduated from Cal State University, Northridge, with an M.A., earning the Best Screenplay Women In Film Scholarship from legendary Director Garry Marshall. In December 2016, Anita was named the U.S. Librarians Highlighted Book of the Month recipient for her debut historical novel, EIGHTH WONDER, based on the amazing true story of Thomas Bethune, a slave virtuoso born blind and feeble who began playing Mozart at the age of three. An advocate for innovative education, arts, and entrepreneurship, Anita, known as Dr. C by her students, earned an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University. Her dissertation, entitled, Innovative Pedagogy: What are the best practices of STEM professors who integrate literature or film to study leadership principles garnered honors.
