When I came out to LA, my main concern was that I wouldn’t find an internship where I was doing what I wanted to do. After not finding many interesting intern prospects, and being turned down from the ones that I did get an interview with, things weren’t looking too good. Until I got an email from New Deal Studios asking for volunteers for a project. All it took was a short stint at my dream job to make things happen. One connection lead to another, and from that I have found myself in an interesting position as a “freelance intern” hopping from internship to internship. However since then, it’s always been in a field that I love. Starting in special effects and model building, to being an assistant to a set dresser and prop master on a feature film! Overall it has been a crazy ride on the SULA semester, but one thing I cannot stress enough is don’t make connections, make friends. Friends will help you more, and open up more doors for you than anything else. Not only in the career side, but for your time in LA as well.
